After long research on this topic, all the anecdotes on being a good father all come down to one trait. LOVE. Love is the most important trait in being a good father. Out of Love, the other important traits emerge. Let’s break this down to four (4) more specific items on how a father shows love.
Time: Spending time with our children is perhaps the most important way of showing that we love them. If we are too busy for our children when they are young, they will be too busy for us when we are old.
Communicate: Communication is another way of showing love. Listening and talking with our children is incredibly important to their self-worth and confidence. Correct them positively, encourage them and shower them with compliments often.
Mentorship: Lead by example. Our children learn more from watching us than from listening to us. Mentoring and coaching our kids with patience and understanding is critical to their development. As their first teachers, it is important for us to show them how to treat others and how to be good humans.
Financial Investments: Proverbs 13:22, “A good man leaves an inheritance for his children’s children” Financial wherewithall is extremely important in the world we live in these days. Teaching your children about finances and providing abundantly for them is a responsibility not an option for a good father.
