“Concentrate all of your thoughts on the task at hand. The sun’s rays do not burn until brought to focus.” – Alexander Graham Bell.
In my first book Success Made Simple, we discussed that the most paramount things you can do to achieve success are setting goals and having a narrow focus. Not setting clearly defined time bound goals is the first hindrance to success.  Tackling too many goals at once is the second hindrance to success.
Goals: Without goals, we find ourselves drifting. Year in year out, we have certain desires and wishes but somehow, we continue in a cycle of mediocrity. Not much changes in our finances, not much changes in our health, not much changes with our lives. We seem stuck because we have no specific, clearly defined goals. The first step to success is setting clearly defined goals that’s time bound.
Focus: Success is built sequentially, not simultaneously. Lack of focus is the silent hindrance to our progress.  Most of us set multiple goals and try to achieve them all at the same time.  This is a big mistake.  Taking a break to examine what’s the most important goal and which is the lowest hanging fruit is a better approach than attempting to pursue several goals at the same time. In order to succeed you have to say No to a lot of ideas, sometimes you will say No to good ideas as well. Andrew Carnegie once said that the advice of “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket” is bad advice.  It is easier to put all your eggs in one or two baskets and watch them closely than putting them in 8-10 baskets.  You will break more eggs trying to carry several baskets, than trying to carry one or two.
Go ahead, set some goals right now.  Set some short term and long-term goals.  Be it in your finances; getting out of debt, starting a new business, losing 10 pounds, attending social events twice a month.  Start with setting big goals and focus on no more than two big goals at a time.
