Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there. In preparation for the publication of my new book “Finding Happiness is Your Purpose”, which will be published in September 2017. I would like to share some of the concepts of the book with you.
Ironically, Finding Happiness is especially challenging in the Western World where we have an abundance of material things. “We must exercise ourselves in the things which brings happiness, since, if that is present, we have everything, and, if that is absent, all our actions are directed towards attaining it. – Epicurus
The 5 S’s For A Happy Life
- Smile: It is important to engage ourselves with people and activities that makes us smile more. Relationships brings happiness, not things. Our culture spends a lot of time glorifying money and things, however those things do not bring happiness. Good, strong relationships do.
- Sleep: Sleep and Stress go hand in hand. Having the right amount of sleep is crucial to a happy life. As a culture, we are overworked and overstressed. This lack of sufficient sleep leads to an unhappy life. We need to attempt to go to bed earlier, ignore the late night TV and try to sleep without using an alarm clock to wake up. Having enough rests puts you in a good mood, which is crucial to a happy life.
- Subsistence: Eating the right thing is crucial to a happy life. In most of the undeveloped world, having something to eat at all is a problem, but in the western world, we have an abundance of subsistence, which has led to abuse. The right diet (however you define it), is critical to a happy life.
- Sex: This is a topic that most writers find so hard to discuss but a lot of things we do in life is in pursuit of happiness and sex. Several studies have indicated that sex is more of a determinant of happiness than money. The ideal frequency for sex is however, more complicated. According to studies, people who have sex between 2-3 times a week reported to be happier that people who do not by 55%. People who have sex once a week, reported to be 44% happier than those who do not. The number decreases accordingly.
- Sport: The more active we are, the happier we tend to be. Having the ability and participating in regular physical activity, preferably outdoors and in groups, significantly increases our happiness.
It is clear that when we are happy, we have it all. Practicing these 5 S’s should lead to a happier you.
Cheers, to your happiness.
